At first, I couldn't catch up with their speech because they were speaking very fast and ı am not accustomed to listening the speech of native speakers. I listened it over and over and took notes while ı was listening then ı paraphrased it. It was a good experiement but a hard process for me :)
AFTER
I WAS GORGEOUS
Jean Shrimpton,
Tania Mallet, Lysette Anthony, Annabel Giles, Jilly Johnson were interviewed by
Deborah Bull. In Deborah’s interview some questions like “what happens to these
beautiful women as they grow older?”, how women cope with the process of
getting older?” were included and she also wants to know what happens after she
was gorgeous.
Deborah Bull begin
her interview with the question : “ Why we value beauty so highly in our
society?” to find out the answer she interviewed with Geoffrey Beattie the
Professor of Psychology at the University of Manchester, he believes that the
symmetry in the face seems to be a biological indicator of particular genetic
background . Sarah Churchwell; the professor of University of East Anglia.
Sarah investigates gender studies written about some of the most beautiful
women in the world and how the beauty is a power for women. Then the
interviewer goes to the Louise Court ( UK editor of Cosmopolitan magazine)’s
office. Deborah asks what makes a beauty icon? Louse gives an interesting
answer. She thinks that an icon is not just about appearance it’s something
about her spirit. There has to be a good spirit inside the woman.
Any woman who has
been rewarded for beauty is going to be anxious about aging. Now let’s see the
interviews with the models themselves. Deborah’s question is “How the beauty
icons feel about their looks in their hey-days.”? Firstly she interviewed with
Lysette Anthony who still has a kind of child like beauty. Because of her age,
she is about to lose her beauty. The second model who was interviewed by
Deborah was Jean Shrimpton (one of the best models in sixties) says that she
has a bit weakened looking as she ages and she does not worried about her
looking anymore.
The other question
was “are these six icons aware of the physical changes in their bodies?” even
Annabel is 21, she notices her body started to change and crinkle. Tania mallet
tells the day when she noticed that she had 'not young skin anymore. But for
her getting older is not a threat for her identity. She can relax when she
thinks that everybody will get older. For Jilly Johnson the aging process was
like a joke she didn’t like it but she tried her best to keen everything in the
right place and she believes that as women age they have to look younger and
still beautiful.
The other question
was “Do the beauty icons need plastic surgery or Botox to look younger?” Jilly
Johnson doesn’t have a problem with plastic surgery she loves it and she has
had her face lift. She says that whenever she needs it she would do it.Annabel
Giles has also had plastic surgery. She says that it is the best thing she did.
it raised his confidence level because she started to feel looking older and
tidied than she felt she says “ I just took an action”.
The interviewer
says that like balet dansers, most models will have plans to be on their career
when they reach certain age their career will come to an end. Annabel Giles is
ready to change and says that she started TV presentations because she loves
communicating with people and giving information she just wanted to do something
else she started in TV but her favorite job is always in radio because she
knows that she performs her personality than her look in radio.
The last question
was “What are your advices to women to look amazing” Firstly Tania Mallet
answers this question by saying “they should never take their beauty granted.
They should always know that they will lose it very quickly”. Therefore they
have responsibility to use it wisely for example for charity works. Lysette
Anthony says thay they should enjoy their beauty and use it because they will
lose it in one point.
